SECRET RIVERS is Kyle “Guante” Tran Myhre and SEE MORE PERSPECTIVE – poetry and Hip Hop, science fiction and social commentary, all over live production.

For a few years, we have been working on an album featuring KTM’s poetry over SMP’s live production. We had planned to release that in early 2026. As ICE and CBP invaded our community, however, those plans changed. So our first official release is actually “Spring Is Coming,” a fundraiser EP supporting the Neighbors Helping Neighbors Twin Cities ICE relief fund. While Secret Rivers started as a more poetry-focused project (and the EP does have two poems on it), this project took us back to our roots as emcees, and features both of our voices equally:
The lead-off track, Worthy of the Stone, started off as something very different: here’s a live, in-studio performance of those lyrics over an instrumental from the TV show Andor:
OUR NEXT PROJECT
While Spring Is Coming features both of our voices, and we are going to keep sharing music like that, the album that we’ve been working on is primarily focused on SMP’s production and KTM’s poetry. Here is a work-in-progress demo from our upcoming album! More soon.
And the official blurb:
SECRET RIVERS features the fiery vocals of slam poetry champion Kyle “Guante” Tran Myhre backed by the live production wizardry of SEE MORE PERSPECTIVE on the MPC and Loop Station 505. Disrupting the stereotype of spoken word poetry as navel-gazing, open mic night pretentiousness, the Twin Cities-based duo performs work that centers grounded, human connection—from rejecting dominant culture visions of masculinity, to affirming the importance of grief, to cultivating radical hope in the midst of crisis. Deftly weaving together Hip Hop, ambient, and a mural-like collage of vocal samples (from Octavia Butler, Avatar the Last Airbender, Blade Runner, and beyond), SMP arranges soundscapes for Tran Myhre’s poetry that feel right at home at a music festival, a theater show, a sci-fi convention, or the end/beginning of the world.
BOOKING
Even before releasing anything, we’ve experimented with the format at a handful of performances over the past few years and are open to more. Whether it’s a poetry-over-music set in a theater, or a fire-and-brimstone Hip Hop set at a festival, or a fully-instrumental SEE MORE PERSPECTIVE DJ-style live production set at a fundraiser (or some combination of the three!) – Contact us here to explore possibilities.
